ESPN – March 23, 2010, 11:42 AM ET There are very few Kobe Bryants out there. LeBron hasn’t won yet. Dwyane Wade had Shaq [O'Neal] sitting next to him and he had Pat Riley coaching him. Open Question: Can someone Summarize this article?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Open Question: Can someone Summarize this article?
Girls in ponytails and soccer jerseys packed the front of a room at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. They elbowed each other and giggled as kids from across the nation spoke lovingly of basketball, pole vaulting and field hockey, and in support of Title IX–the 1972 law that has become synonymous with the rise of women’s sports. Since Title IX went into effect thirty-one years ago, girls’ athletic participation has skyrocketed. The number of girls playing varsity sports has gone up from one in twenty-seven in 1972 to almost one in two today. Despite all the good feeling Title IX has engendered among girls and their parents, the law is currently under attack. The National Wrestling Coaches Association filed a lawsuit against the Education Department claiming that Title IX is decimating men’s college sports, forcing colleges to cut hundreds of wrestling programs–along with gymnastics, diving and other teams–in order to meet quotas for female athletes. The aggrieved jocks have found an ally in President Bush, who formed the Commission on Opportunity in Athletics last June to re-examine the law. The high school girls descended on Washington for their press conference-cum-pep rally just as the commission convened its final meeting at the Hotel Washington. Outside the hotel, the Feminist Majority and the conservative Independent Women’s Forum held dueling press conferences. Inside the grand ballroom, a wrestling coach wearing a No Quotas button cruised the perimeter, handing out literature calling on the commission to reject the gender politics of the special interest groups.

Wizards keep the streak alive

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Wizards keep the streak alive

HOUSTON — Andray Blatche got fouled and leaned to his left as his fall-away jumper banked off the backboard. After watching his shot fall, Blatche whirled around, pumped his fist, kicked out his leg and screamed. He later made the free throw to give the Washington Wizards a five-point lead over the Houston Rockets with less than five minutes remaining in Tuesday night’s contest.

‘I was thinking there was no way we could lose this game,’ Blatche said.

Blatche had 31 points at the time, having little trouble working around Rockets undersized center Chuck Hayes or anyone else thrown against him. And therein was the problem. Because as the game continued, Blatche refused to believe that the Rockets could stop him. But not only did the Rockets figure out how to keep Blatche silent the rest of the night, they also held the Wizards to just one meaningless field goal the rest of the game, resulting a disappointing 98-94 loss at Toyota Center.

Resolved Question: Is the SEC a major conference? (NCAA basketball)?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Resolved Question: Is the SEC a major conference? (NCAA basketball)?
I was talking to a friend about UK winning over Cornell, and he said that Ivy isn’t even a major conference. I don’t really know how conferences work, so would you consider SEC to be a major one? How important is it versus all the other conferences?

Open Question: What is your favorite school from each of the BCS conferences?
PAC 10 – Arizona State. I don’t know why, but since I saw them lose against Ohio State back in 96 or 97 I’ve always kind of liked them. SEC – LSU. Went there. Nuff said. Big 12 – Kansas, no good reason, I’ve just always enjoyed watching their basketball. They’ve consistently put a good product on the floor for a long time. ACC – Florida State, because college football is better when they are good. Big East – UCONN – no good reason. Big 10 – Ohio State, dotting the I, great tradition.

Open Question: Is my mile time good?
Alright, I’m really slow, but im wondering if this time is good for my weight and height, I’m 59 and 220 pounds. My avg mile time is 10:10 to 10:40…well thats my school mile, if its a REAL mile, i think itd be like 11min…am i really slow for my weight?btw my body fat percentage is 30.4%, yeah i know im obese. Heres something else about my able to exercise, I can do 18 pushups until collasping, 30 situps until collasping, long jump best is 10 feet, and i bike everyday besides wednsday and thursday and saturday(wed=basketball practice, thurs=karate, sat=basketball game)for at least 30minutes…i run for 2 minutes, then walk like about 10 sec then run for 2 minutes and i keep stopping like 10 sec and then i start jogging, im trying to beat this kid, hes around 52 and hes way smaller, overweight though, we’re friends xD…so is this a good mile time for my weight and height and body fat percentage????
